Awnings and High winds

Last week we had a number of calls from commercial customers who had incurred damage to their awnings in the high winds. Most conventional awnings meet Class 2 on the official CE wind speed ratings and this is only 18/20mph so the wind speeds we experienced in London of 50mph or more were far in excess of this; resulting in fallen trees and even the roof of the famous Epsom Racecourse was severely damaged.

  • When high winds are expected you really must retract your outside awning - follow the guidelines below.

  • Always retract your awning if the site is unattended

  • Retract the awning if high winds or snow are anticipated

  • Fit an anemometer to an electric awning (automatic wind sensor) - but never discontect the power.

  • Have you awning serviced by a Deans Installer if you have left your awning out and suspect damage

  • Retract the awning if snow or heavy rain is expected.

  • Download your Deans CARE leaflet here
Follow these simple rules and you should enjoy your awning for many years
